Camping Fridges
Camping Fridges basically use three different types of technology
Thermoelectric type camping fridges
The thermoelectric principal is where heat or cold is produced when a DC voltage is passed through two dissimilar metals. The advantage of this technology is that it can be used for heating as well as cooling, is tilt resistant ie can be stored on an angle and they have very few moving parts that will wear out.The disadvantages are that they generally do not have the cooling capacity of the other two technologies.
Compressor type camping fridges
Compressor type portable refrigerators work on the same principle as a normal domestic fridge, using compressed refrigerant which gets cold and is passed through a radiator and a fan is used to produce cold air. The advantages of this type of technology is that they are usually problem free, have excellent cooling and even freezing performance. The disadvantages are they generally need ventilation and need to sit level.
Absorption type camping fridges
This technology uses a heated ammonia gas to produce a cooling effect. The advantages of this technology is its problem free operation on electricity or gas, they are relatively low priced and have the most noise free operation of camping fridges.
